Abby Bard

Weaving became my passion following a trip to Guatemala in 1974, where I learned to weave on a back strap loom. I later studied with Anne Wilson at the DeYoung Museum School, shared a studio with fiber artist Rebecca Lyon in San Francisco, designed and wove fabrics for clothing for Greentree Weaving in Cotati, and started my own line of textiles in 1984.   I use rayon, cotton, and wool yarns —  with metallic threads to add sparkle — to weave scarves, hats, capes, shawls, blankets, and pillows in my Sebastopol studio.  My work is inspired by nature and my travels to Mexico, Peru and Thailand, and, in particular, my garden.
