Blockprinting on Fabric + Paper (Part2) – Live/Virtual

Learn or review how to design and carve your own blockprints. Using a brayer and blockprinting ink, we will print cards and envelopes, a drawstring bag, and a set of colorful cotton napkins. We will also construct a small handmade book, using one of the printed cards as the cover.

This class has two options. For those who are designing/carving for the first time and would like to purchasea complete kit of supplies including the linocutter set, choose Option 1.

For those who might have taken a previous block printing class with Elaine or already own a lino cutter set, choose Option 2.


OPTION 1 $110 for first-time carving students who need a lino cutter set.Workshop with Kit #1 + shipping kit #1 contents-  lino cutter set with handle and 5 nibs – 3×4” rubber block- black block printing ink for fabric and paper- 4” brayer- four cotton napkins – small drawstring bag- four A2 cards (4-1/4x x 5-1/2” folded) and envelopes


OPTION 2: $95 for participants who already own a lino cutter set.Workshop with Kit #2 + ShippingKit #2 contents: – 3×4” rubber block- black block printing ink for fabric and paper- 4” brayer- four cotton napkins – small drawstring bag- four A2 cards (4-1/4x x 5-1/2” folded) and envelopes

Additional items to gather:- pencil- ruler- scissors- 5 sheets of 8-1/2” x 11” bond paper cut in half to 8-12”(w) x 5-12”(h)- large-eye needle- 25” length embroidery thread or linen thread (Can substitute regular sewing thread, doubled)- optional: T-shirt, tea towel, or other cloth items for additional printing

Bio:
Elaine G. Chu has taught students of all ages, in person and online.

Her work has been featured in “Greencraft” and “Somerset Studio” magazines
as well as “1000 Artists’ Books.” She co-authored “Wood Paper Scissors,”
a how-to crafts book. Elaine received a B.A. in music at Yale University and
a B.F.A. in graphic design at University of the Arts.
