Creativity as Self-Care

Creativity as Self-Care

If you’re feeling taxed, depleted, and have a hard time making space to give yourself the care you give others, this “playshop” may be just right for you.  Perhaps you’re a parent, nurse, teacher—someone who puts others first all day long. You may also be a high schooler who carries the weight of the world on your shoulders. In our time together, we will use easy and fun embodiment practices as well as visual arts processes to give back to ourselves.  This is meant to be about the enjoyment of ourselves, and getting back in touch with our innate creativity. You will hopefully leave feeling refreshed and ready to give back to the world in all the ways you do.

Example activities include:

  • Simple moving warm-up with music

  • Journaling exercises (Bring your own journal or use paper at HCA.  Watercolors and ink will also be supplied.)

  • Collage vision board (A collage uses images from magazines, etc, to create a new combination of images. A vision board is a way to put your intentions for your life into a visual form.)

  • Opportunities to share and interact with others in a supportive way

These are examples of programming.  Expect some amount of movement and some visual arts for each class, with variety.  We will often explore themes to help guide our time.

If you can’t take all 6 classes, you may opt to drop-in, but, please register first (hit “Pay Later”) button at time of registration.  Let Asherah know by email (asherah.weiss@gmail.com) how many classes you will be attending and bring a check to the first class you will be attending.  CC’s can only be accepted through the registration link or in-person during regular hours.
About the cost:
Classes are valued at $25 per class or $150 for all 6 classes.  Some people have less and some have more. If you’re scraping by, pay less. If you have the means, please consider paying more than the suggested amount to support this class series and make it equitable for all.
