My watercolors are my responses to the natural environment, as I try to convey nature’s rhythms, color and light. My work may be described as abstracted realism. I delight in watercolor’s unexpected qualities, and welcome surprises as they push me toward new possibilities. It’s the process of painting and not the product that gives voice to my story. I usually do not have a preconceived idea of what the painting will look like when finished. When I sense that I have discovered something for the first time and can smile at the result, then I know that I am finished.
