Summer Art Camp 2020

Your child’s creativity will blossom with HCA’s four-day Summer Art Camp sessions. Each week brings new and exciting creative options for ages 3 – 15! Students explore various media including: painting, ceramics, mixed media drawing, music and more.  
 Our camps inspire creativity and promote fun. Dress for a mess and prepare to  explore the world of art!

Summer Camp for 3 – 5 years old

Location: Healdsburg Community Nursery School

 These camps offer play breaks interspersed throughout the day in the cool and shaded yard at HCNS.
Registration for each camp is $150.

  • Week 1: June 15 – 18, 9AM – 12PM
    • Garden Makers with Siobhan Loughney. Your little naturalist will be introduced to sweet and safe plants in the garden and will learn how to plant seeds, make herbal sprays and use flowers and leaves for simple art projects.   These projects have been designed for tiny hands that enjoy exploring nature. 
  • Week 2: June 22 – 25, 9AM – 12PM
    • Recycled Art with Nichole Au. Kids create and reconstruct art projects with the use of found, recycled, and used materials with the addition of paints, pastels and markers.  Each day will allow for a happy and creative experience where kids can explore how to reduce, reuse and recycle in the most creative way! 
  • NO CAMP FOR 3 – 5 YEARS OLD WEEK 3 & 4
  • Week 5: July 13 – 16, 9AM – 12PM
    • Colorful Cloth Dye Camp with Lindsey Jackson. Tie-dye, indigo dye, ice dye and natural plant dyes are some of the colorful techniques students will get to play with.  These age-appropriate projects will leave kids with colorful art they can wear or gift or simply be proud of!  Each student will have the opportunity to create numerous dye projects  throughout the camp week.  Dress for a mess because these projects will get colorful! 
  • Week 6: July 20 – 23, 9AM – 12PM
    • Preserve the Harvest with Siobhan Loughney. In this hands-on camp, children will learn the basics of preserving the sweetest summer treats including cinnamon apple jelly, dried pear slices, handmade peach fruit leather and more!  Kids will surely love what they make and learn new ways of eating and creating healthy treats.

Summer Camp for 6 – 8 years old

Location: Healdsburg Community Center

Art campers enrolled in both morning and afternoon sessions receive free supervised lunch break. Campers should bring sack lunch.
Registration for each session: $150

  • Week 1: June 15 – 18, 8:30AM – 12PM
    • Multiples: Printmaking, Stamping and Stenciling with Kristin Sillars. Learn to create works of art in a fun environment using a variety of printmaking methods. Students will explore relief, mono-print and gelli prints to create prints that use expression, abstraction and realism. Kids create their own stamps and stencils or use those on hand to create amazing mixed media projects.
  • Week 1: June 15 – 18, 1PM- 4:30PM
    • Sculpture and 3-D Art with Harvest Nieto Students will enjoy learning ways to create three-dimensional art through a variety of materials such as paper, paint, cardboard and clay to create 3D masterpieces.  We will also head outdoors to design and construct larger, collaborative sculptures from natural and recycled materials to form earth-friendly totems and figures.
  • Week 2: June 22 – 25, 8:30AM – 12PM
    • Eco Garden Art with Kelly Ebeling.We’ll tinker, build, and create garden art using recycled materials and what we can scavenge from nature. Students learn to restore, upcycle, convert and invent everything including garden stakes, mosaic flower pots, animal sculptures, funky birdhouses, wind chimes and colorful fairy houses.
  • Week 2: June 22 – 25, 1PM- 4:30PM
    • Calling all Muggles and Wizards! with Harvest Nieto. Join us for some Hogwarts fun. We will make our own wands, brew our own potions, produce magic crystals, create our own Butterbeer, Quidditch brooms and more! We will work in multiple mediums to create unique projects that are ideal for students who love both art and science. Come prepared to immerse yourself in the world of Harry Potter!
  • Week 3: June 29 – July 2, 8:30AM – 12PM
    • Mixed Media Madness with Zoe Brester-PenningStudents will use a wide variety of mediums to invent fun and funky contemporary art pieces.  We will study a number of famous artists and apply their techniques in painting, drawing, collage, clay, fabric, and recycled materials. This class will inspire creative thinking and hone design skills.
  • Week 3: June 29 – July 2, 1PM – 4:30PM
    • Fantastic Beasts with Kristin Sillars. From a flying Hippogriff’s wings at Hogwarts, Pikachu’s iconic zig-zag tail, to the many eyed aliens at the edge of the universe – our favorite movies, books, games and comics are often defined by the creatures we know and love. We will learn how to design creatures that are visually striking, but also able to draw from mythology and biology. Come craft and create the creatures of your wildest dreams!
  • Week 4: July 6 – 9, 8:30AM – 12PM
    • Creation Stations with Kristin Sillars. Students will explore a variety of projects and media at 4-5 creation stations each day as they work at their own pace.  Each day, we will explore different projects such as mini mosaics, collage boxes, watercolor & mixed media, clay, wood and wire sculptures and more.
  • Week 4: July 6 – 9, 1PM – 4:30PM
    • Meet the Masters with Kelly Ebeling. We will explore modern and contemporary artists including Georgia O’Keefe, Yayoi Kusama, Helen Frankenthaler, Jasper Johns, Jean Michel-Basquiat and others.  Working in multiple mediums, students learn key concepts, techniques of movements such as Abstract Expressionism, Dada, Pop Art as they create their own masterpieces throughout the class
  • Week 5: July 13 – 16, 8:30AM – 12PM
    • A Rainbow of Mixed Media with Deborah Padrick. This class will explore drawing, which we will combine with varied watercolor techniques. Japanese brush stroke (Sumi-e) will enhance some of our art creations. We will also explore the magical movement of dyes on silk fabric.  Oil pastels, pens and colored pencils create new dimensions in our mixed media art.
  • Week 5: July 13 – 16, 1PM – 4:30PM
    • Felting and Fiber Arts with Vicki Assegued Students will learn many techniques for weaving and layering fabric and fibers in exciting shapes.  We will use recycled clothing, placemats, lace, trims, yarns, felt, jewelry parts and buttons to create fun and stunning wall art pieces.
  • Week 6: July 20 – 23, 8:30AM – 12PM
    • Studio Painting and Drawing with Kelly Ebeling. Students will draw and paint with various materials such as color pencils, markers, watercolor brush and ink pens. We will learn techniques in color-matching, layering, blending, and building texture. The instructor will illustrate how to use art materials in a wide variety of methods and themes ranging from animals to landscape.
  • Week 6: July 20 – 23, 1PM – 4:30PM
    • Mosaic Stepping Stones with Barbara McNally. Smash tiles and create colorful designs in an easy and fun process. Instructor will provide safety glasses and oversee scoring, smashing and grouting process as students produce mosaic stepping stones for the garden.
