SCULPTING WITH PAPER CLAY

Healdsburg Center for the Arts announces a Zoom paper clay sculpture demonstration with sculptor MICHELE COLLIER

Michele will host you on Zoom during an intimate visit to her studio as participants observe how to create a spontaneous figure using paper clay slabs.

During this demonstration, we learn that many rules are set aside as she rolls, slams, squeezes and stretches the clay. This unique medium – – is perfect for all skill levels.

Michele will be sculpting a standing figure from undulating slabs. Follow along as she shares her secrets for working in this unusual way. Her work is truly unique and depends heavily on the properties of this clay. A clay that uses paper additives to give it strength in wet or dry form. It fires to cone 10…it’s REAL clay, but unlike any clay you have used before.

Michele has been using this clay exclusively for 15 years and all of the methods she will be sharing with you are discoveries she has made and used in her sculptures. The original rules of clay are changed and this opens up a vast array of possibilities. Discussion of non-glaze surfaces will be covered and “how to” sheets will be available online for each effect.

Sat., Jan. 16th, 10:00-1:00.

Cost: $50
Zoom details will be sent a day before the class.
