Joyce Libeu

My work usually begins with a pencil drawing. I scan those drawings and print them on watercolor paper. Then I color the drawing, and then scan the resulting watercolor drawing. Finally I print the color piece on various thin rice or mulberry papers. I attach the prints to cradled boards and cover them with clear heated wax, resulting in what I call encaustic prints. These works are very small editions, of no more than ten. I also make relief prints on mulberry paper, mount them, and cover them with wax.

Raised in the Bay Area, I moved to Sonoma County in the 1980s. In the past I’ve taught art and shown my work at various exhibits in the North Bay. I also participate in Art at the Source each year during the first two weekends of June.
